University of Waterloo

The Forming and Impact Mechanics Research group is under the direction of Professor Michael Worswick and focuses on the characterization and prediction of material behaviour under large plastic strains and/or elevated rates of deformation using a balance of experimental and analytical methods. Research on electromagnetic (EM) forming has been ongoing for over a decade and in the last five years the focus has broadened to EM joining processes. Specific areas of research include: increasing formability with EM forming, hybrid conventional/EM forming, joining of dissimilar metals and high strain rate materials characterization.
